| 'ASAL is not Puthiya Paravai' - Saran January 4, 2010 at 2:46 pm |
|
When it comes to penning baseless rumors, it's endless as the oceans. When Ajith Kumar's film was titled as 'ASAL' and producers were announced to Sivaji Production, an unexpected call popped up. They justly spread a rumor that 'ASAL' is nothing but a remake of yesteryear classic thriller 'Puthiya Paravai'. The film revolves around the protagonist (Sivaji Ganeshan) who's confused with a womanpossessing the same looks of his wife killed before few years. Well, the title 'ASAL' just lead to some unconfirmed conclusions that over here Ajith is wedged between such discombobulations where he cannot find the truth. But Saran has denied stating that it's a baseless rumor and it's a film based on international mafia ramification. |
| Culprit Arrested For Jaggubhai January 4, 2010 at 2:43 pm |
|
Here's a flakey situation appalling the entire film industry. Ever experienced a scenario where a film's DVD in stores prior to the theatrical release. Sarath Kumar's 'Jaggubhai' seems to be drenched in absolute error as the complete film was uploaded in some of the foreign based websites before couple of weeks.Literally, when the dealers of piracy market got to know this, nothing could stop them from distributing the prints across the town.Sad on the part of Sarath Kumar & Co. it struck as a horrifying alarm for the actor and his wife Radhika as they rushed to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for help. Apparently, the person who uploaded the video over internet has been arrested and commuted to Chennai Puzhal Jail and has been enquired about the culprit who delivered the copy from the Lab that was meant for re-recording…. |

Mogamul Abhishek has directed this film. Rajan Radhakrishnan who had earlier produced films like Nandha and Mounam Pesiyadhe has produced this film Kadhai. This film is about the shocking incidents that take place in life of a person who has won the Booker prize. The film crew has challenged that no one can foretell the story as well the 20 minutes climax scene. Since Sasikumar himself has acquired the rights of the film, it should be true what the crew said. |
| Medium Budget Flicks Of First Season January 4, 2010 at 2:35 pm |
|
On the button, it's gonna be a benignant occasion for the film buffs of Tamil Cinema as they've lots and lots of releases in the next fourth months. Barring the big tickets of the season, it's worth glimpsing on few medium-budget films that has more probabilities to sway on with success.
Aval Peyar Tamilarasi: Gruntled with some commendable productions, Moser Baer Productions is set to release it's next film 'Aval Peyar Tamizharasi' by last week of January. This film is expected to be a pure drama of emotions and romance spelled poignantly.
Anandha Purathu Veedu: Remember Naga!!! A blissful director from small screen, who spellbound with his 'Marmadesam' and 'Veedathu Karuppu'. He's all set to make his debut directorial with this film produced by Shankar under the banner of S Pictures. The film features Nanda and Chaya Singh in lead roles.
Rettaisuzhi: The legends – K. Balachandar and Bharathiraja are the best enough brands to evoke everyone's interests. The film is boasted to have more elements to engross the audiences – ala – mirthful quotients, emotions, and a gripping tale.
These three films are outmost unparalleled in all vistas and probably will be an experimental stroke at box office. It's worth looking out for such films as they don't carry the usual traits of what a contemporaneous Tamil Cinema is brimmed with. |
| THUNICHAL MOVIE REVIEW January 4, 2010 at 2:32 pm |
| Starring: : Arun Vijay, Ramana, Shiva Manjal.Direction: MajeedMusic: Premji AmaranProduction: Sri Ambhrishinee arts New Year, new hopes, new beginnings, and new movies! We have the first set of releases of this year, not anything big. Thunichal starring Arun Vijay, Ramana and new heroine Shiva Manjal is a tale of the havoc that a sadistic mind plays in the lives of many people. The owner of the sadistic mind has a very unique philosophy – what he cannot get, nobody else should and the object of his desire should self destroy. And, when he fails to get the lady of his dreams, he cooks up a devious plan to destroy everything in her life and drive her to self destruction. The plan involves a couple of murders and then misleading people about who is responsible for the deaths. The misled minds then go about damning each other's lives. Does the truth ultimately come out or does the crookedly cunning mind get the pleasure of seeing his plans work? That is what Thunichal is all about.First, this is not the way we wanted 2010 to begin. There are seldom movies where murdering has appeared so easy. And then, the murderer so easily convinces people that someone has actually done it. All this seems to happen in some lawless land where there is no police or anyone to look into a murder. Most characters in the movie seem to believe in an 'eye for an eye' method of life and that is why they set off to murder each other without so
much as a second thought. If any part of the movie impresses, it has to be the final few portions which has a couple who feign love for each other with the real intention of killing each other with neither of them having a clue about the other's ideas.Arun Vijay seems to be in a lost plot after his Malai Malai high. But, Ramana impresses with his cold villainy. Other performances don't count for much. Director Majeed, who also has the story and screenplay to his credit, must have thought long and hard about the plot. This one fails to hold the viewers' attention right from the start. The 'lovers out to kill each other' thread could have been better used to give a few interesting scenes which would have enhanced the quality of the film. Technically, there is nothing much that stands out and music by Premji Amaran fails to make any sort of impact.Thunichal is a pretty low way to start 2010 for Kollywood. It looks a jaded and unrefined product, the type that one won't be too pleased to watch.
Verdict: Watch it if you have the 'Thunichal' |

| Ilamai Itho Itho Will Be Youthful Fiesta January 4, 2010 at 2:22 pm |
|
Guess what? Director Raja is likely stepping into the shoes of publicizing the film with all his efforts now. His upcoming film 'Ilamai Itho Itho' is all set to hit screens shortly and this filmmaker is centering towards the youth cohorts now.Unlike the usual traits of publicities like blogging and other sort of publicities, he's been into an old-yet-effective aspect – Word of Mouth.Says Raja: 'The film isn't run-off-the-mill romantic entertainer of guys and belles just falling in love. Ilamai Idho Idho completely differs from those clichéd conceptualizations. I'm sure that youngsters will be reflecting themselves over the characters on the screens….'Well, it's worth mentioning that Vivek's comedy sequences are expected to bring the roofs down. The comedy actor will be playing a spoof on Ram Gopal Varma's 'Sarkar' by wearing the same style of costumes wore by Amitabh Bachchan. |
| PUGAIPPADAM MOVIE REVIEW January 4, 2010 at 2:21 pm |
| Starring: : Yamini, Priya, Anand, Mrunalini, Nanda, Amjad, Sivam, Harris, Madan. Direction: Rajeshlingam
Music: Gangai Amaran Production: Boys Studio and Maya Bazaar cinemas The college campus, a gang of friends, love, heartbreak… And the end of life in college. Each one of us can connect with this and no one can hate it. That is what Pugaippadam is all about, the tried, tested and safe theme of life in the campus. Yes, it does strike a chord.Pugaippadam takes us into the lives of a group of friends who enjoy each other's company. When a group has boys and girls, one expects love to happen. Love does happen, but the only problem being that a triangle of sorts is formed. Does the triangle of love threaten the friendship? What happens to the one whose love is never returned? Does he sacrifice his love for the sake of friendship? How does the group of friends react to the issue that this triangle creates? Watch Pugaippadam to find out.At the outset, it must be said that Pugaippadam does manage to live up to the liveliness and energy that we associate with a campus movie. The first half is colorful and enjoyable with humor mixed at places. The initial portions carry a very positive feel which is a strength of the movie. The latter portions tend to move more towards the pensive and the morose, but still manage to connect to the audience. The climax, in particular, is touching to a certain extent. Pugaippadam has the ability to transport you back to the sweet memory of your college days.
On the flip side, the entire movie appears episodic and fragmented. The flow is definitely missing at many places, which is a sore point. Also, the casting could have been better. Shanmugasundaram's role as an HOD does not sit well on him, especially in the scenes where his character is used for comic relief. Venkat, appearing as a professor, fits the bill. The young debut stars have done their parts well. The camera has been handled very well, capturing the scenic beauty of the landscape. Director Rajesh Lingam has proved that he has the right stuff in him to make good movies if he gets the right material. Music by Gangai Amaran is another positive for the movie, especially the song 'Oru Kudaiyil'.Overall, Pugaippadam treads the familiar path of friendship, love and college life. Though it lacks flow and depth in narration, it still has enough to keep you smiling and perhaps make you relive those wonderful days in college.
Verdict: Friendship, love, memories: Mixed bag |

| A R Rahman says that his journey in Hollywood will continue January 4, 2010 at 2:18 pm |
|
A R Rahman while speaking to the media said," I am very happy that my name figures in the Grammy Award list. I consider Grammy Award equivalent to Oscar Award. This award is given for music. I will be happier if the song Jai Ho from the film Slumdog Millionaire gets the award. I have composed the music for the Hollywood film Couples Retreat. Since this film is a comedy film, one cannot expect much music. The music in this film is very much different. This will not suit the taste of my fans.If we wait for a good story, then we will not know when we will get the chance. It is not an easy matter for a music composer from Asia region to enter into Hollywood. This is my entry. I have got good reception and best reviews. I will continue to work in Hollywood. There was news that I will be acting. That is not true. God has given me the talent in music. That alone is enough.
